DESCRIPTION :
A pair of gorgeously colored mandarin ducks swim below an outburst of daisies, whilst the carefully orchestrated movement of the plum tree and its vivid red blossoms rise dramatically into the upper fields. The riverbank has been formed using the tarashi-komi technique whereby green paint is dripped onto areas of black ink while it is still wet. This technique remained one of the Rinpa school's hallmarks from its inception. Overall the design is quite flat and formalized eschewing the trends of the day toward naturalism and focusing firmly on a decorative objective. The stunning original brocade of woven gold thread leaves the viewer in awe of its splendor.

Ink and color on silk
