ARTIST :
The stamp reads Shusui, although we haven’t been able to confirm the artist.

AGE :
circa 1925

SIZE :
The actual painting measures 160cm by 113cm (63 by 44.5 inches).

DESCRIPTION :
Dating to the latter part of the Taisho period, this is an extremely large and rare work. Its ambitiousness in both size and subject make it highly likely that it was painted for display at an exhibition. The scene has been painted with great delicacy and care, the artist making use of a variety of rich pigments and gofun on the paper surface. Perched distractedly on the bamboo bench in her summer dress, the girl’s loneliness is tangible. Her refined doll, woven balls and stylish geta are no subpigment and gofun on paper

TECHNIQUE :
pigment and gofun on paper

CONDITION :
The work is in reasonably good condition, with two small punctures in the lower left field and a few random marks. There are also two scratches running vertically through the girl’s dress and hand. The painting is in need of re-framing, and will be shipped without its present frame.
