DESCRIPTION :
Brushed with at least seven brushes simultaneously, this highly distinctive work is a testament to the exceptional control, concentration and individual style of the artist. The heavily stylized character reads Ryu or Dragon. The dragon is one of the four celestial beings and guardian of the east quadrant and associated with Yang male energy, spring, the color blue and the element of water.

TECHNIQUE :
Ink on silk

CONDITION :
The painting is in very good condition. The work was remounted and underwent very slight repairs in the late Meiji period. This highly effective black silk mounting dates to that period. Since then two small creases have appeared, one through the upper seal and one through the lower seal. The silk is free of foxing.
