DESCRIPTION : The fox, a complex creature in Japanese folklore, is often assocaited with the worship of Inari Daimyojin, a Shinto/folkloric rice diety. Although the origins of this little white fox may lie with the Inari diety, the artist, Uemura Eitaro, has placed it at the center of a delightful Shijo/Maruyama School insprired work. The full moon has been silhouetted with washed ink, wispy green reeds hint at a soft and inconsistent breeze. Individual strokes of gofun account for the exceptional detail of the fox. |
