ARTIST :
The painting is signed Hanabusa Gyoshin and Fujiwara Hironobu. The seal reads Hironobu. He was most active during the Hoeki era (1751-1763). He is the younger brother of Susen Narinobu and the son of Hakuen Hoshin. He is noted as having headed the Kanda Matsunagachou Kano School.

The painting measures 50 by 19 inches. The scroll measures 76 by 26 inches.

DESCRIPTION :
Unusually long limbed and sporting a long, shaggy coat. Standing in a rainstorm with its back arched and hackles raised, the tiger directly engages and challenges the viewer.

TECHNIQUE :
ink, color and gofun on paper

CONDITION :
It is in good condition, with very light foxing present. The simple, raw silk brocade is edged with light blue and red trim and presents the work very nicely.
