ARTIST : The painting is signed Hanabusa Gyoshin and Fujiwara Hironobu. The seal reads Hironobu. He was most active during the Hoeki era (1751-1763). He is the younger brother of Susen Narinobu and the son of Hakuen Hoshin. He is noted as having headed the Kanda Matsunagachou Kano School.

DESCRIPTION : Unusually long limbed and sporting a long, shaggy coat. Standing in a rainstorm with its back arched and hackles raised, the tiger directly engages and challenges the viewer.
TECHNIQUE : ink, color and gofun on paper
CONDITION : It is in good condition, with very light foxing present. The simple, raw silk brocade is edged with light blue and red trim and presents the work very nicely.
