DESCRIPTION : An earlier Rengetsu work of a delightfully brushed ink turtle accompanying a typically elegantly inscribed poem. "For 10,000 generations, Flowing on and on, Giving life to the world -- The pure mountain water, Descending from kameno'o". There is a playful pun on the name of the mountain - "Turtle Tail" - and the turtle painted on the lower left at the "tail" of the flowing water. Translation of the poetry and a letter of authenticity are provided by John Stevens, professor and director of the Zen Art Society. |
